Thats a wrap on “Young Gun”
Last week, I finished production mixing the feature film “Young Gun”, a project that was very challenging to work through, with long hours & a demanding schedule that required absolute focus & dedication. During this job I had the chance to collaborate with many different departments to assist in our task of capturing some rather colourful & full blooded performances, by cast members who I have to give full credit too, as they’re attitude in working with the crew to achieve this was utterly stellar, & especially with regard to allowing sound department the patience to really refine the radio mic setup to capture they’re performances, & I mean that both narratively & musically, as the film featured a whole day of in-camera sync-sound music pieces to record. Along with this we worked with a really wonderful costume department who helped us build some specific lavalier rigs, the films gaffer who did some on-site solder work modifying some XLRs for us, camera operators who fought with dreaded reflections, & a production team who organised a full Phonak in-ear system for us to deploy, giving us the chance to get the onscreen music performances exactly as the director envisioned, while also organising a number of kit-injury replacements. We routinely put out 6+ talent radio mics every day, while also taking this job to refine my 2-Boom workflow with newly acquired A10 digital radios. All this was done with efficiency by a team I pushed every day, to which massive respect & thanks has to go Bogdan Mecea for stepping into the role of 1AS for me in difficult circumstances & driving to make a success of the situation, along with Pierluigi Papaiz who did a difficult daily on the project. This was supported by sound trainee Craig Radford, & lastly additional assistant sound work from Jimmy Lobe, with some cover by Jonathan Mitchell. Much respect to the whole Young Gun team & congratulations to Henk Pretorius on the completion of another Feature!
& now onto new adventures...
